FAQ
What is BJJ training like?
BJJ is considered one of the most realistic martial arts practiced today. The training is very diverse and lively. You will learn by doing. The instructor will teach a technique and discuss its merits in certain situations and then you will practice that technique with a partner. This practice will be done in a very controlled manner. Partner practice is typically followed by five to seven minute training rounds. During these rounds you will attempt to apply various techniques that you have learned (i.e. chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations) to your partner. Of course, you will work at the appropriate level of your partner, but you will truly feel actual contact with your partner. Making for the most realistic, but safe way to train.
What's a typical class like?
Classes start with a warm-up followed by instruction on specific techniques. Students will practice these techniques for a certain length of time, as determined by the instructor and the individual's level of understanding. Practice is then followed by rounds of live rolling. Again, students do this at their own pace. Typically, these rounds last for five to seven minutes followed by a rest period. Students then pair up with other students for additional rounds.
